ABOUT

Joseph Scrimshaw is a comedian, writer and podcaster originally from Minneapolis now based in Los Angeles.

He’s a writer for the fantasy comedy TV show Tigtone on Adult Swim.

Joseph has performed at San Francisco SketchFestChicago Improv Festival, and headlined Jonathan Coulton’s JoCoCruise. Joseph has also brought his “geek-flavored” stand-up to multiple conventions and festivals including Dragon*Con, CONvergenceH.P. Lovecraft Film Festival,  w00tstock (with Paul & Storm, Wil Wheaton, and Adam Savage), touring with The Doubleclicks, and more. In April of 2015, Joseph appeared on an episode of Geek & Sundry/Legendary’s Tabletop with Wil Wheaton.

Joseph’s comedy albums include Rebel Scum and Flaw Fest, a double album of comedy and music inspired by the comedy. John Hodgman said, “I am glad Joseph Scrimshaw has the power of thought and audible speech, or else this very funny album would not exist.”

Joseph has a comedy podcast about liking things a little too much called OBSESSED with Joseph Scrimshaw. The podcast is part of Feral Audio and has been featured multiple times on iTunes as “New & Noteworthy” and a “Staff Favorite” in comedy. Joseph also runs the multi-show podcast feed, Force Center with Ken Napzok and Jennifer Landa.

Joseph has also written for RiffTrax, Screen Junkies,  the public radio show Wits (where he wrote sketches for Paul F. Tompkins, Andy Richter, Tim Meadows, Dave Foley, and more), the national sketch comedy TV show M@dAbout, several episodes of the satirical news comedy show WTFark, and the episodes Death by FireThe Smart Thing, and Restraint for the Feral Audio podcast Getting On with James Urbaniak. Joseph released his first book, a geek memoir called COMEDY OF DOOM, in June of 2012. Joseph is also very active on twitter. His tweets have appeared on mashable.com, themarysue.com, hollywoodreporter.com, Yahoo! News, The Washington Post, and more. Joseph has won @midnight‘s Tweet of the Day competition multiple times.

As a playwright, Joseph’s comedy plays, ADVENTURES IN MATING, AN INCONVENIENT SQUIRREL, THE WORST SHOW IN THE FRINGE and MY MONSTER (written with Bill Corbett) have played in New York, Seattle, Orlando, Dallas, Las Vegas, the UK, Bulgaria, Peru, the middle of the Caribbean Sea, and more.

In his free time, Joseph enjoys watching his wife knit. Joseph also feels a kinship with the North American Tree Squirrel.
